Benjani in talks with Sunderland

HARARE, February 2, 2010 - FORMER Zimbabwe Warriors Captain, Benjani Mwaruwari, says he is fed up about sitting on the bench at star-studded Manchester City Football Club and is now seeking better prospects at Sunderland.

Mwaruwari sat on the Manchester City bench for most of last season only playing 21 games due to injuries sustained while playing for the mediocre but cash rich British club.
The deal to go to Sunderland would be worth about 1.5 million British Pounds Sterling - a far cry from the massive 4 million Pounds Sterling paid for him when he transferred from Portsmouth Football Club to Manchester City.
Manchester City coach, Roberto Manicini, this week confirmed that Mwaruwari had approached him and asked to be released for Sunderland.
He said the Zimbabwe forward had pointed out and said he wanted more playing time which was not being afforded him by Manchester City.
Sunderland coach, Steve Bruce, confirmed that they had approached Mwaruwari saying his side needed more strikers to boost their chances in the Barclays Premiership Soccer League in the United Kingdom.
He said the deal could be worth about 1.5 million Pounds Sterling.
"With the injuries we have, we are worried that we are a little bit light in the striking area, and we have decided that we will try to make a move," Bruce said.
"We have entered into discussions with his (Mwaruwari's)  representatives. We have just looked at the situation and we feel that we are juggling the balls in the air a little bit."
Mwaruwari quit the Zimbabwe Warriors last year after failing to take them to the Africa Nations Cup and the World Cup in 2010 to be played in neighbouring South Africa.
