Zimbabwe Warriors Team Travels By Road To Swazi
Harare, March 13, 2010 - For the first time in their history Zimbabwe Warriors went to the national assignment by road because the cash-strapped football association failed to secure funds for the air tickets for their trip to Swaziland.
Henrietta Rushwaya, the ZIFA chief executive officer said the association had failed to fund for a flight to Swaziland.
The Warriors flew to Johannesburg on Friday night and were scheduled to then travel by road to Swaziland.
This is the first time the Warriors have traveled for a national assignment by road. The effects of the long trip by road are likely to have an effect on their performance on Sunday.
The Warriors play Swaziland in the first round of the African Nations Championships.
The Warriors risked being booted out of the 2012 Nations Cup if they failed to fulfill the fixture against Swaziland.
Zimbabwe is the defending champions of the COSAFA Senior Challenge, which the country hosted last year.
The Warriors traveled with one injury worry ahead of the Swaziland game. Dynamos striker Cuthbert will undergo a late fitness test.
